MI3 : Media Industries, Infrastructures and Institutions

MI3

MI3 explores the transforming media landscape by critically investigating media industries, infrastructures and institutions.

Media production, circulation and consumption are situated in an ecosystem of institutions, industries and infrastructures. Understanding media industries in the digital age requires attention for the global dynamics of media flows, and knowledge on the mediation and translation of culture across platforms and borders. MI3 investigates the specificity of creative media work, production cultures, and distribution and exhibition practices. Our work deals with issues related to local and global media landscapes, with particular interest in the spaces where creative innovation and contestation occur.

MI3 is a research initiative attached to the Department for Media and Culture Studies (MCW) at Utrecht University and to ICON (Institute for Cultural Inquiry) of the Faculty of Humanities.
