Popular media like feature films and television drama represent existing power structures and inequities in our society.  They make the persisting subordinate position of women clearly visible. Together with Vrouwen in Beeld, MI3 conducts research to uncover the underlying mechanisms that cause this subordinate position, to discuss them, and to offer an alternative perspective.

Following a pilot study, the first research project, ‘Beter is nog niet goed’ (‘Better is not yet right’) aims to lay a foundation for a better understanding of the position of women in Dutch fiction and documentary by providing both data on the male/female rate in key production roles as well as a network analysis, to uncover the dynamics in the field.
